We’re seeking motivated and capable HDU/Anaesthesia Service registrars to join our Anaesthesia and HDU teams. This is an exciting opportunity to build advanced clinical skills while working within a supportive, consultant-led environment.
About the Role
As an HDU/Anaesthesia Service Registrar, you will play a pivotal role delivering safe, high-quality care across inpatient, perioperative and emergency settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide critical care and perioperative management to HDU patients under consultant supervision
- Deliver anaesthesia and pain management services appropriate to your level of training
- Lead the Medical Emergency Team (MET/Code Blue) and respond to deteriorating patients
- Assist with emergency airway management hospital-wide
- Support the Emergency Department in managing Category 1 patients
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent clinical outcomes
- Participate in emergency and elective procedures across diverse surgical specialties
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities
- Engage in teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff and students
To be eligible for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine: Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
Please note: as per the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.
The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

- Minimum 2 years postgraduate clinical experience

- Strong clinical skills and commitment to patient safety
- Dedication to continuous professional development
Desirable
- Experience in teaching, supervision, or clinical research

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:
NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
- Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
- Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
- Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.
- Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Primary Health Care Services – provides culturally responsive primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in-hospital and across four community sites.
- Primary Health Care Services – including GP Plus sites at Elizabeth, Modbury and Gilles Plains.
