About the role

The Social Worker / Psychologist position within Child Protection Services (CPS) at the Women's and Children's Hospital provides specialised forensic and clinical services to children who have allegedly experienced abuse, maltreatment, or crime. This role combines therapeutic intervention with forensic assessment, working collaboratively with South Australia Police and the Department for Child Protection to ensure comprehensive child protection responses.

Key duties of the role

  • Conduct forensic psychosocial assessments to determine abuse/neglect occurrence and effects, identify risk factors and care difficulties, and establish therapy needs
  • Formulate objective clinical opinions and communicate accurate recommendations to referring agents, statutory bodies (DCP and SAPOL), and Courts
  • Undertake professional training and development, integrate current approaches into clinical practice also review existing practices continuously and promote change where required
  • Contribute to a positive team environment that promotes learning, development, safety and welfare of employees, acknowledges cultural and personal differences, and encourages creativity

 

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated clinical experience in child protection or child mental health
  • Experience providing direct clinical services to children, adolescents and families experiencing trauma
  • Sound theoretical knowledge in child adolescent mental health and child protection
  • Knowledge of South Australia child protection system and relevant legislation
  • At least two years post graduate experience providing clinical services to children, adolescents and families
