About the role

The Social Worker provides therapeutic support to vulnerable young people aged 12–25 under Guardianship of the Chief Executive who are at risk of sexual exploitation and missing from care. The role works with families and other agencies to deliver coordinated support and requires a flexible, mobile, and assertive approach.

Key duties of the role

• Provide priority services determined by level of risk, vulnerability, impact of trauma on the ability to cope with life, alternative service options, and age (priority is to be given to clients of younger age)
• Develop close collaborative relationships with the Department of Child Protection
• Facilitate the response of young people who have experienced sexual abuse and are at risk of sexual exploitation through increased absconding behaviour
• Support and actively participate in a positive, respectful, and safe work environment by contributing to constructive and collaborative working relationships.
• Responsible for ongoing professional development and education while contributing to the evaluation and improvement of the service

Skills and Experience

• Qualification of a Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number).
• Experience in the provision of therapeutic services to young people who have experienced sexual abuse/assault
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed practice, and relevant legal, ethical, and WHS frameworks
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis intervention skills with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
