  • SA, Mount Barker 5251
  • Part Time, Temporary Role until 30 Jun 2027
  • Combined on-site and remote clinical pharmacy service to Mt Barker Hospital and spoke sites in BHFLHN

About the service

Mt Barker Hospital is located centrally within the Adelaide Hills, and services a growing population within this sub-region of the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network. The hospital currently includes 34 inpatient beds with general medicine, some surgical patients and palliative care. The expanded Emergency Department opened in June 2023, which has seen a rapid increase in presentations and activity across the hospital, with higher acuity admissions noted during 2024-2025 and an Automated Dispensing Cabinet installed in early 2026. Our new extended service to Gumeracha, Mt Pleasant and Strathalbyn hospitals is provided by a combination of remote and on-site clinical services.

In 2026, Mt Barker Hospital will participate in the CAReMed Study evaluating the impact of Partnered Pharmacist Medication Prescribing in a Regional hospital. A new hospital is under development for opening in late 2027, which will triple inpatient capacity and add mental health, paediatric, rehabilitation services, and increase existing dialysis and chemotherapy infusion services. It’s an exciting time to be involved at Mt Barker Hospital!

The pharmacy team is well respected and works closely with medical, nursing and allied health staff from prime position on the ward. Working without a dispensary, the pharmacy team at Mt Barker is well versed in troubleshooting complex discharges to the community with the support of local pharmacies and residential care.

About the role

You will provide a broad range of professional and clinical pharmacy services that support safe and effective medication management for inpatients and outpatients across the service. In this role, you will optimise medication therapy, provide expert medicines advice and work closely with medical, nursing and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support positive patient outcomes.

The Mount Barker Pharmacists deliver high quality, patient centred pharmacy services within a supportive regional healthcare environment, to acute patients of Mt Barker Hospital and supporting the wider BHFLHN Pharmacy team either on-site or remotely.
