Senior Mental Health Nursing Role | SALHN

SALHN is looking for an Advanced Nurse Consultant to bring clinical leadership and specialist expertise to its Mental Health team. Working part-time on a fixed-term contract through to February 2027, you will deliver advanced clinical practice, guide multidisciplinary colleagues, and contribute to quality mental health care for consumers with complex needs. This is a meaningful opportunity for a senior mental health nurse to work with purpose inside one of South Australia's most established acute health services.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Nursing Director, this role is responsible for providing high-quality, integrated mental health care to people living with mental illness, including assessment, treatment, and support for a wide range of mental and physical health conditions.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Provide expert clinical nursing care, and interventions to community mental health consumers
  • Be required in a multidisciplinary primary health care setting to apply nursing expertise to assess clients, select and implement different therapeutic interventions and evaluate consumer progress,
  • Contribute expert nursing assessment and advice to clinical teams to achieve integrated nursing care within a risk management framework,
  • Initiate, implement and co-ordinate processes, for quality improvement and continuity within corporate risk management and nursing professional practice frameworks. e.g. investigating complaints, incidents and accidents, identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing, monitoring and maintaining hazard control measures,
  • Change local processes and practices in accordance with emerging service needs, care evaluation results, identified imminent systems problems, and coordination of local activities with corporate systems,
  • Lead and coordinate the development and evaluation of clinical protocols, standards, policies and procedures

About you:

  • Registered as a Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia for at least three years and holds a current practising certificate,
  • Holds a qualification in mental health nursing equivalent to a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing,
  • Completed appropriate theory and practical Clozapine course,
  • Completed Long-Acting Injections (LAI) lead trainer course,
  • Completed Metabolic health lead trainer course,
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation,
  • Ability to lead clinical practice change,
  • Able to foster a workplace which develops staff skills,
  • Demonstrated high level of mental health nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice,
  • High level computer literacy in the current nursing and clinical information systems e.g. CBIS, EPAS, OACIS and operational software,
  • Demonstrated experience in leading clinical change processes
