About the role: 

Reporting to the Director of Occupational Therapy, this role is responsible for the provision of comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to inpatient rehabilitation patients. The Occupational Therapist in this position requires broad clinical experience at a senior level in the occupational therapy management of patients with a wide range of illnesses and disabilities relevant to all rehabilitation areas including neurological and amputee patients and those with complex needs.

Working as part of the rehabilitation leadership team, duties for the role will include:

  • Assess patient’s function, problems and needs using a variety of formal and informal assessments.
  • Plan and implement evidence based intervention programs with outcome measures to evaluate efficacy of therapy programs and introduce new practices in response to evaluations.
  • Implement and review the objectives of the Rehabilitation unit and ensure the Occupational Therapy team is aligned with these objectives and strategic plans. 
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapy Director to ensure the maintenance of professional standards of team members.
  • Adhere to standards of clinical services, competencies and evidenced based clinical guidelines

About you:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility for the organisation and supervision of clinical Occupational Therapy services to a designated area as a member of an interdisciplinary team. This includes the ability to undertake assessment and intervention to patients with a variety of illnesses and disabilities, (including neurological, medical, surgical, vascular and orthopaedic) and the management of complex cases.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including conflict negotiation, consultation and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to establish relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead change that results in improved outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills including the ability to communicate with patients, staff and other agencies, both orally and in writing.
  • Clinical experience at a senior level, in an acute health care organisation.
