The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available for a passionate and experienced clinician to step into the newly created role of Duty Nurse Consultant (Level 3 – Senior Clinician)—a pivotal leadership position within our dynamic and evolving health service.

Joining a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will work within a 12-hour shift model, with flexible Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) arrangements available for suitable candidates seeking a better balance between lifestyle and career.

As a Senior Clinician, you will provide expert clinical oversight and leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, coordinated, and high-quality care 24/7. This role is ideal for a proactive nurse leader with strong mentorship values, advanced clinical skills, proven critical thinking, and operational management capabilities in fast-paced clinical environments.  Key responsibilities:

  • Use critical decision-making to provide senior-level clinical support and leadership to the nursing team within Port Pirie Regional Health Service.
  • Work collaboratively with the Patient Flow Coordinator and Nurse Unit Managers to support the safe and effective delivery of care, while partnering with healthcare professionals, patients, and families to address clinical challenges and inconsistencies.
  • Support junior staff through mentorship, coaching, and upskilling, ensuring professional growth and development.
  • Lead and assist in the management of complex clinical scenarios, providing guidance and timely decision-making and ensuring appropriate escalation.
  • Participate as a key member of the Code Blue and emergency response team.
  • Coordinate and manage bed flow, patient access, and staff allocation, ensuring optimal resource utilisation.
  • Oversee nursing and midwifery workforce governance, including skill mix, scope of practice, and safe staffing.
  • Lead complex case reviews, identifying opportunities to improve clinical practice and system effectiveness.
  • Provide telephone support to clinicians from smaller sites within the Local Health Network (LHN).
  • Collaborate with the operational on-call team for the management of significant events, WHS matters, and clinical escalation.
  • Champion a positive, professional team culture focused on safety, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Bring

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration with at least 3 years post graduate experience.
  • Current Advanced Life Support, Paediatric Life Support and Neonatal Life Support certificate or working towards.
  • Advanced patient assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision, mentoring and education of students, enrolled nurses, and less experienced registered nurses.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate daily clinical operations, ensuring optimal staff allocation, efficient patient flow, and adherence to quality and safety standards within the healthcare setting.
  • Skilled in managing complex care scenarios, staff supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Strong background in mentoring, education, and supporting the development of junior nurses and clinical staff.
  • Confident in decision-making, clinical escalation, and after-hours operations.
  • Committed to patient-centred care, team collaboration, and system improvement.
  • Flexible and capable of working 12-hour shifts, with DIDO options available for the right candidate.
  • Experience in High Acuity Clinical Settings, Emergency Department, High Dependency, Coronary Care and/or Anaesthetics will be highly regarded.
