About the role

The role provides expert mental health nursing leadership and clinical expertise to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. The position is responsible for coordinating clinical activities, supporting patient/client outcomes, providing professional advice, and leading effective care delivery within the service area.

Key duties of the role

  • Provides expert mental health nursing care, clinical leadership, assessment, and evidence-based interventions to support improved patient outcomes and quality care delivery
  • Contribute to the development and sustainability of nursing/midwifery skills for the needs of the specific population group using systems of resource and standards promulgation
  • Hold a contemporary professional practice portfolio containing evidence of postgraduate qualifications, learning and practice experience that underpin a demonstrable application of knowledge and skills commensurate with the level and type of practice expected of the role
  • Contributes to research, evidence-based practice, and service improvement initiatives to enhance nursing practice, clinical outcomes, and quality care delivery
  • Provides clinical leadership, mentorship, and direction to support mental health nursing practice, care delivery, and continuous improvement within the team/service

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate, enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or holds a qualification in mental health practice.
  • Demonstrated experience providing mental health nursing assessment and clinical care to children, young people, and families with complex needs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, teamwork, and change management skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, ethics, and contemporary mental health nursing practices.
