Overview

Port Lincoln Hospital is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Specialist to step into a dual role that combines hands-on clinical leadership with operational oversight of the Emergency Department at the heart of Eyre and Far North Local Health Network (EFNLHN). This is a rare opportunity to shape emergency care delivery for a regional community that depends on it.

Your Role at Port Lincoln Hospital

As Emergency Medicine Specialist Consultant and Head of Unit, you will provide senior clinical care within the Emergency Department while leading the unit's operational and workforce functions. Reporting directly to the EFNLHN Executive Director Medical Services, your responsibilities span both clinical excellence and departmental leadership - with up to two non-clinical days per fortnight allocated to support this scope. Head of Unit appointment is for a minimum of 12 months and up to five years, with the Small Unit Managerial Allowance payable in accordance with clause 4.3.2 of the SA Medical Officers Award.

  • Deliver specialist emergency medicine care across the full breadth of presentations at Port Lincoln Hospital
  • Lead unit governance, including quality improvement, clinical audit, and patient safety initiatives
  • Provide supervision and support to medical officers, junior doctors, and multidisciplinary team members
  • Collaborate with the EDMS and broader EFNLHN executive on service planning and workforce strategy

What You Bring

  • Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent specialist recognition
  • Current or eligible registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing a clinical unit or team
  • Ability to work effectively within a regional or rural health setting
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to SA Health's safety and quality frameworks
