About the role

The Clinical Nurse provides safe and effective nursing and/or midwifery care across health service settings, applying clinical experience and knowledge. The role supports the development of less experienced staff and undertakes allocated portfolios aligned with professional development and service needs.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide proficient, person centred, clinical nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to patients/clients in a defined clinical area
  • Assists and supports the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent in management, clinical, and education activities
  • Participate in clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for students, new staff and staff with less experience
  • Participate in clinical auditing, clinical trials and/or evaluative research
  • Promote continuity and consistency of care in collaboration with the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent of the ward/unit/service

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Demonstrated competence and knowledge of relevant nursing standards, legislation, codes, and professional requirements.
  • Experience providing clinical leadership and supporting student nurses, enrolled nurses, and less experienced registered nurses.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills within a clinical environment.
  • Knowledge and experience applying quality improvement principles in healthcare settings.
