Sterilisation Services Manager | Drive Quality at South Australia's Busiest Tertiary Hospital

As Manager Sterilisation Services at Flinders Medical Centre, you will lead the team responsible for ensuring every reusable medical device meets the highest reprocessing standards — supporting safe patient care across one of South Australia's busiest tertiary hospitals. This is a full-time, ongoing leadership role within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, where you will manage daily operations, drive quality improvement, and develop a skilled sterilisation team.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, this role ensures a continual improvement philosophy amongst the Sterilisation Technicians and ensures the environment meets WH&S requirements through the adherence to policies and procedures as they relate to Sterilisation Services as established by the Nurse Manager Sterilisation Services. In addition, the manager works with the Nurse Manager to ensure that compliance with AS/NZS5369:2023 is maintained.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Ensure that service provision and the activities of the Division / Unit / Ward / Service are person and family centred and professionally and effectively conducted by contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers,
  • Ensure the effective management of human, financial and physical assets through appropriate planning and allocation of resources to achieve agreed Division / Unit / Ward / Service and strategic plans,
  • Coordinate overall organisation and control of Sterilisation Services including material resource management and maintaining equipment within Flinders Medical Centre,
  • Provide day to day leadership, direction and support and ensure effective and efficient utilisation of human resources,
  • Effectively coordinate appropriate staffing levels to meet service demands and safety in practice including undertaking recruitment and selection and induction activities where required,
  • Ensure the allocation of staff through the development of rosters and staffing plans
  • Liaise with Departments and specialist groups within Flinders Medical Centre concerning their sterile supply requirements

About you:

  • Certificate III Sterilisation Technology,
  • Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving conflict resolution and negotiation,
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet timelines,
  • Ability to be creative, innovative, and flexible when approaching issues within the healthcare setting,
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential,
  • Significant and demonstrated experience in sterilisation practices and procedures including knowledge of requirements of AS/NZS5369:2023,
  • Demonstrated experience in management and leadership roles including rostering of staff,
  • Demonstrated experience in working in sterilisation services
