About the Role:
Palliative care is one of nursing's most profound callings — the space where clinical skill and human connection matter most. Modbury Hospital, part of the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join its Palliative Care Inpatient Unit on an ongoing full-time and part - time positions basis across multiple positions.
Your Role in the Unit
Working within a dedicated inpatient palliative care environment, you will deliver person-centred care to patients and their families during some of life's most significant moments. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing evidence-based clinical nursing care to palliative inpatients, with a focus on symptom management and comfort
- Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team — including medical, allied health, and pastoral care — to coordinate holistic care plans
- Supporting patients' families and carers through education, communication, and compassionate guidance
- Contributing to clinical handover, documentation, and quality improvement activities in line with NALHN standards
What You Bring
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Demonstrated clinical experience in palliative, oncology, medical, or aged care nursing
- Sound understanding of end-of-life care frameworks and symptom management principles
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams in high-emotion settings
- Ability to work rotating shifts across a 24/7 inpatient roster at Modbury Hospital
- Alignment with SA Health's commitment to safety, respect, and patient dignity
To be eligible for this position, you must be Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
