CAMHS Graduate Mental Health Nurse Development Program

Are you a Registered Nurse looking to build a rewarding career in child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health nursing?

The CAMHS Graduate Mental Health Nurse Development Program offers a unique opportunity to combine postgraduate study with supported clinical practice across South Australia's specialist child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health services.

Commencing in February 2027, the program provides structured clinical rotations, education, supervision and mentorship, supporting you to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and clinical experience needed for a rewarding career in child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health nursing.

What the Program Offers

Gain experience across a range of specialist CAMHS services, including:

• Mallee Ward – specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health unit.
• Helen Mayo House – specialist inpatient perinatal and infant mental health unit.
• Community CAMHS.
• Statewide CAMHS Specialist Services.

You will also have access to:

• Dedicated clinical supervision, mentoring and support from experienced mental health clinicians.
• Exposure to diverse clinical presentations, specialist services and multidisciplinary teams.
• Opportunities to participate in quality improvement, service development and education activities.
• Support to complete postgraduate study in mental health nursing.
• A collaborative learning environment focused on building clinical confidence, professional capability and career development.

About the Role

As a Graduate Mental Health Nurse, you will work alongside experienced clinicians to deliver safe, evidence-based and family-inclusive mental health care to children, young people, families and women in the perinatal period.

You will develop skills in:

• Mental health assessment and formulation.
• Care planning and therapeutic interventions.
• Risk assessment and management.
• Family-inclusive practice.
• Multidisciplinary teamwork and care coordination.

Throughout the program, you will be supported to build the knowledge, confidence and capability required for a rewarding career in child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health nursing.

About You

We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate nurses who demonstrate a strong interest in child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health nursing and a commitment to supporting children, young people, families and women during the perinatal period.

You will have:

• Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Enrolment in, or willingness to enrol in, an approved postgraduate mental health program (minimum Graduate Diploma level).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A commitment to child-centred, family-inclusive and culturally safe care.
• Curiosity, initiative and a genuine commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
• A willingness to seek guidance, receive feedback and reflect on your practice.
• A genuine interest in developing a career in child, adolescent, infant and perinatal mental health nursing.
