Start Every Surgery Right - Day of Surgery Admissions!

As a Registered Nurse in the Day of Surgery Admission Unit at Flinders Medical Centre, you'll be the clinical anchor that ensures every patient is safe, informed, and ready before they reach the theatre. Working part-time within SALHN's flagship tertiary hospital, you'll conduct pre-operative assessments, collaborate with surgical and anaesthetic teams, and deliver the kind of calm, confident care that makes a real difference on one of the most significant days in a patient's life. 

About the role: 

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you'll assess and prepare patients for surgery, coordinate with multidisciplinary theatre teams, and deliver clear patient education to ensure safe and timely surgical admissions across a busy tertiary hospital environment.

Duties for the role will include:

• Assess individual patient/client needs, plan, implement and/or coordinate appropriate service delivery from a range of accepted options including other disciplines or agencies,
• Participate in quality improvement activities that contribute to patient/client safety, risk minimisation and safe work activities within the practice setting,
• Provide health promotion and education, to patients/clients or groups and carers to improve the health outcomes of individual,
• Provide, with increasing capacity over time, support and guidance to newer or less experienced staff, Enrolled Nurses, student nurses and other workers providing basic nursing care

About you:

• Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate,
• Effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team,
• Demonstrated competence in the area of Day Surgery Nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards
