About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Staff Specialist within the South Australia Intellectual Disability Health Service (SAIDHS). If you are a medical specialist who believes equitable, person-centred care matters, this part-time ongoing role offers the scope to make that belief count.

Your Role at SAIDHS

Working within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), you will provide specialist medical assessment, treatment, and consultancy for patients with intellectual disability and complex health needs. This is a clinically rich position that spans direct patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and service development.

  • Deliver specialist clinical care to adults with intellectual disability presenting with complex or co-occurring health conditions
  • Provide consultancy and support to primary care, community, and acute health teams across South Australia
  • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, and evidence-based service development within SAIDHS
  • Engage in teaching, supervision, and capacity-building activities that strengthen the broader workforce

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated clinical experience with people with intellectual disability or complex neurodevelopmental presentations
  • Strong skills in communicating and building trust with patients, families, and carers across diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively within and lead multidisciplinary teams in a community-facing service model
  • Commitment to the SA Health values of respect, integrity, and excellence in patient care
  • Understanding of the legislative and ethical frameworks underpinning disability health in South Australia

To be eligible for this position, you must have a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. You must also have an appropriate Specialist Qualification and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.

The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.

Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
