About the position
Reporting to the Dean/Deputy Dean, the Law School Work Integrated Learning Director coordinates the Law School’s placements and WIL program, including working collaboratively with the University placements team, liaising with existing placement partners, seeking new opportunities for placements, and ensuring high quality experiential learning experiences for students and partners. The Law School Work Integrated Learning Director will also work with academic staff on the ongoing development of the work-integrated-learning curriculum within the Law School to continue to support the professional development of our students. The Law School Work Integrated Learning Director is expected to be a qualified legal practitioner who can oversee work-integrated learning activities for both law and criminology students.
The Law School Work Integrated Learning Director is responsible for the overall strategic and operational development of work-integrated learning in the Law School, under the direction of the Dean/Deputy Dean and in collaboration with University teams and other internal and external stakeholders. They will lead, manage and develop the Law School’s placements program which includes law and criminology clinics, as well as placements with other providers, to enable the delivery of high-quality experiential learning to law and criminology students. They are also expected to work with academic staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality work-integrated learning experiences within the law and criminology curriculum. The Law School Work Integrated Learning Director engages in training and professional development activities to maintain their Australian lawyer practising certificate and to ensure current knowledge of the graduate employability skills for law and criminology students.
Some of your duties will include:
- Apply discipline and other relevant knowledge in developing and maintaining the Law School work-integrated learning program, including by demonstrating knowledge of the needs of law and criminology students in an experiential learning setting, and the graduate employability skills of law and criminology students.
- Coordinate and teach placement subjects as required and participate in innovative subject and course level curriculum design, in collaboration with other academic staff, to continually improve student placement and other work-integrated learning experiences.
- Work with the Law School’s professional staff on promoting career development opportunities for students.
- Lead and manage relationships with the Law School’s placements partners, including by maintaining productive and accountable relationships with existing partners, developing new placement opportunities in collaboration with the University industry engagement teams and evaluating the performance of placements within clinics and with other providers
- Liaise effectively with the Law School leadership in relation to the placements program including the performance of the clinics, the development of new partnerships, the curriculum and learning outcomes of placement subjects, and marketing and resourcing of the placements program.
- Report to the Law School leadership on placement programs, including providing evaluations and reports as requested, to provide a high degree of transparency and accountability in relation to placement and employability programs.
Skills & Experience
- Master of Laws or equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience as appropriate and recognised by the University/Profession for the relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in managing student experiential learning and the interests of students, clients and hosts in a clinical setting for law or criminology.
- Demonstrated understanding of graduate employability skills for law and criminology students.
- Demonstrated high level leadership skills with experience in managing workflows and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
