About the position
The School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport offers a range of general and specialist undergraduate and postgraduate courses that are rigorous and attuned to meeting the needs of students in ensuring their readiness to work in changing environments. The School comprises three Departments and 10 disciplines across La Trobe’s multi campus operations and has an outstanding reputation for research excellence, research translation and for building strong relationships with industry partners.
In the discipline of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe, our mission is to provide quality teaching and research for better care and social justice. Social Work and Social Policy has delivered high quality social work programs for the past 45 years. Our well-established model of blended learning entails subject teams working together across five La Trobe campuses. We currently offer both a graduate entry course, Master of Social Work (MSW) at the Bundoora campus and the Bachelor of Social Work (Hons) across all campuses. We also offer the innovative MSW (Child and Family Practice) and the Graduate Certificate in Child Protection, as well PhD, doctorate and masters supervision.
We have embedded our theoretical framework into our implicit and explicit curriculum across all our courses. Our expectation is that La Trobe Social Work graduates recognise First Nations Australians as the first peoples of the land and are committed to advancing human rights, social and environmental justice and harnessing professional expertise and passion to work for social transformation.
Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University provides an outstanding research environment and we encourage and mentor staff to grow their skills and expertise. Our research strengths include mental health, child and family, disability, rural issues, First Nations people’s health and wellbeing and alcohol and drugs.
This position will contribute to the design and delivery of the School's undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs in Social Work and Social Policy (online, blended and face to face) and conduct research in the Social Work and Social Policy discipline.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for Social Work and Social Policy.
- Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development.
- Evidence of high quality and/or high impact research conducted and published or otherwise disseminated, relative to opportunity.
- Experience in the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies and evidence of success in securing research funding.
- Ability to teach in the discipline’s key areas.
- Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
