About the position

The Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences is comprised of active teaching and research staff across the broad disciplines of applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics, and physics.   The Department offers undergraduate majors in mathematics, statistics, data science, and physics, and also provides many important subjects that are undertaken by students from a diverse range of courses and disciplinary backgrounds (eg. engineering, life sciences, education). Several members hold national and other teaching awards.  The Australian Research Council’s Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA2018) ranks the Department’s mathematical sciences as ‘above world standard’, and physical sciences research as ‘well above world standard.’

Some of your duties will include:

  • Conduct and publish, or otherwise disseminate high quality and/or high impact research/scholarly activities under limited supervision either independently or as part of a team.
  • Provide advice within the field of the employee's research to Honours and postgraduate students.
  • Attendance at meetings associated with research or the work of the unit to which the research is connected and/or at Departmental or School meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees.

Skills & Experience:

  • Completion of a PhD degree in the field of Differential Geometry.
  • Evidence of participation in higher level study in Riemannian and Differential Geometry.
  • Professional expertise in Riemannian Geometry.
  • Working familiarity with Lie Theory and Representation Theory.
  • Working knowledge of packages of symbolic algebra, e.g. Maple or Mathematica.
  • Evidence of experience in research and evaluation and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.
  • A record of contribution to publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of research potential.
  • Experience in the analysis and modelling of data, including the capacity to integrate data from a range of sources and of uneven quality.
