About the position
The La Trobe University nanotechnology and nanofabrication group, within the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (SCEMS), has an exciting opportunity for a Research Officer/Fellow to join the team. The focus of this role will be on the nanofabrication of photonic devices, requiring a high degree of technical expertise.
This position will play a key role in building a critical mass of research expertise and leadership in optical biosensors. A major anticipated outcome of this work will be the advanced development and manufacturing of biosensors aimed at enhancing existing diagnostic technologies to support timely and accurate diagnosis in resource-poor settings.
Level A duties will include:
Duties at this level will include:
- Conduct high-quality, high-impact research independently or collaboratively under limited supervision.
- Disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, seminars, and professional meetings.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance within your research field to Honours and postgraduate students.
- Actively participate in research group activities and meetings, contributing to rigorous nanofabrication practices and standard operating protocols.
- Acquire, interpret, and analyse research data using established methods, contributing to the development of new techniques, models, and methodologies.
- Perform essential administrative tasks associated with the role.
- Collaborate on the design, fabrication, and testing of nanofabricated devices, developing innovative methods and protocols using state-of-the-art equipment.
Level B duties will include:
- Conduct high-quality, high-impact research independently or collaboratively.
- Disseminate research outcomes effectively through publications, conference presentations, and seminars.
- Supervise research support staff involved in the research projects.
- Apply for external grant funding.
- Acquire and interpret research data, conduct detailed analyses using specified techniques, and contribute to the development of new methods and models.
- Collaborate on the design, fabrication, and testing of nanofabricated devices, developing innovative methods and protocols using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Co-supervise or, where appropriate, supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students as required.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
Level A:
- Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake research and evaluation tasks independently, with minimal supervision.
- Strong track record of publications or professional and technical contributions demonstrating research capability.
- Experience in data analysis and modelling, including integrating diverse data sources.
- Demonstrated practical experience and skills in cleanroom environments, micro- and nanofabrication, and related characterisation techniques.
Level B:
- Completion of a PhD or equivalent accreditation, along with subsequent research experience directly relevant to nanofabrication.
- Proven track record of publications, conference papers/reports, or professional/technical contributions demonstrating strong research capability.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise or co-supervise Honours, Masters, and/or PhD students.
- Demonstrated capability in conducting research and evaluations independently.
- Demonstrated practical skills in micro- and nano-fabrication techniques, characterisation methods, and experience working in a cleanroom environment.
