About the position

Bendigo Tech School is a cutting-edge learning hub dedicated to equipping students from local schools with vital skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). By integrating the latest technologies such as virtual reality, robotics, and 3D printing into immersive programs, the school prepares students for the evolving demands of the global economy. Its mission centers on developing students’ enterprise capabilities including digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, thereby enhancing future job prospects.

Supporting both students and teachers, Bendigo Tech School provides access to innovative programs, professional development, and opportunities for hands-on learning alongside local industries and La Trobe University. The school fosters a culture of innovation through strong partnerships with schools, businesses, and educational institutions. Its objectives include engaging learning experiences, collaborations that inform career pathways, and creative environments that encourage students to solve real-world challenges. Programs are available for Years 7 to 12, along with after-school activities and design challenges.

The STEAM Educator involves working under the Head of Programs to develop and deliver pioneering STEAM-based curriculum both online and in-person. This role is responsible for teaching, managing resources, and addressing diverse student needs, while meeting the Australian professional standards for teachers. Key responsibilities span curriculum delivery and development, resource management, fostering partnerships, and promoting a culture of continuous learning among staff and students.

Additional duties include professional development, co-designing educational programs with various stakeholders, contributing to strategic objectives, and supporting communication strategies. This role will also assist in implementing safety and regulatory policies, ensures the responsible use of technology (including AI), and helps maintain a safe, inclusive, and achievement-oriented environment for all.

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • An Undergraduate degree (or higher) in any of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Arts or Technology disciplines AND Post Graduate level qualifications in Education and up to 5 years secondary teaching experience in STEAM based disciplines;
    OR
    An Undergraduate degree (or higher) in any of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Arts or Technology disciplines with up to 5 years of relevant industry-based experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to work collaboratively and co-operatively in small teams.
  • Proven communication skills, including excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Good organisational skills and problem-solving abilities with the ability to manage competing priorities and concurrent projects.
  • VIT Registration or VIT Permission to Teach

Highly desirable:

  • Experience in the development and delivery of programs aligned to Design Thinking, digital technologies, enterprise skills and capabilities.
  • Expertise utilising a range of high-end, digital design production technologies in fields such as but not limited to Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Realities, Robotics and Programming, Advanced Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Online Broadcasting, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Rapid Prototyping.
