About the position
You will be based within the Science cluster of the Facilities and Technical Services (FTS) team, supporting the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (SABE) at the Bundoora campus responsible for the management and maintenance of a diverse range of scientific equipment and laboratory infrastructure. This includes diagnosing and troubleshooting instrument and base facility issues, ensuring that the laboratory operations are safe, efficient, and compliant.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical skills and a commitment to customer service to contribute to SABE’s teaching and research as part of a collaborative and supportive team.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
- A degree with subsequent relevant experience working in a laboratory setting to consolidate the theories and principles learned, or extensive experience, leading to either the development of specialist expertise or to the development of broad knowledge in a technical field, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- Ability to innovate and take responsibility for outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to organise work effectively and efficiently and deliver outputs in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, follow established procedures with limited supervision and contribute positively to an effective team.
- High level proficiency in computer software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the use of the internet as a research tool.
- Extensive experience and knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and management of diverse scientific equipment and laboratory infrastructure including the ability to diagnose and trouble shoot issues.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to innovation and accountability.
- Proven ability to document and train others on the safe and proficient use of laboratory equipment.
- Excellent understanding and demonstrated experience in customer service including high level interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to respond to people positively, confidently and with respect.
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures and a commitment to maintaining safe laboratory practices.
