About the positions

The Dementia Training Australia (DTA) consortium is an Australian Government funded dementia education program aimed at increasing the capacity of the health and aged care workforce and healthcare students to care for people with dementia. The DTA consortium is led by the University of Wollongong and consists of La Trobe University, Dementia Australia, Queensland University of Technology, University of Western Australia, and University of Tasmania Wicking Dementia Centre.

DTA provides a range of training and education services and activities nationally through collaboration across consortium members. The La Trobe University DTA team is responsible for the delivery of the Dementia Knowledge to Action (DK2A) Program, General Practitioner (GP) education program, Pain Consultancy Service and Commissioned Training Programs.

This position sits within the DK2A Program which equips staff in aged care (guides) with enhanced skills in dementia care, care improvement, leadership, and responding to changed behaviours. Through this program staff can become effective leaders and influencers at the point of care, driving positive changes in dementia care practices within their workplace. A Mentor to DK2A candidates provides advice, guidance and support throughout the program and care improvement project via online meetings, phone, e-mail, virtual classrooms and face to face at training sessions. This position, together with the program delivery team, also plays a part in facilitating communities of practice sessions with guides.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for these positions, you will have:

  • Current understanding of the dementia knowledge needs of the aged care workforce
  • Knowledge of quality improvement project methods
  • Demonstrated experience of quality improvement projects.
  • Demonstrated recent experience in dementia care and the aged care sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dementia and dementia care
  • Experience in facilitating and delivering education for the aged care sectors. Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment desirable but not essential.
