Our Opportunity:
 
Reporting directly to our Buying Manager, you will select and develop a range of innovative and relevant products across our Apparel and Accessories categories that will enable the department to achieve set sales plans, intake margins, planned markdowns and overall gross profit aligned to the Sussan customer profile.
 
Your passion, experience and drive will play an integral part in this role, where you will be communicating your creativity and innovation for all product development to ensure they are right on trend.
 
Based in our Cremorne head office, you will have previous buying experience and a can-do and hands-on approach to hit the ground running.
 
Your day-to-day will include:
  • Buy merchandise ensuring you achieve budgeted sales results, meet gross profit targets and identify growth opportunities
  • Ensure OTB, margins and pricing strategy for department is being achieved 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of trends as they relate to the Sussan customer
  • Demonstrate an understanding of product construction, fabric/materials and their performance in styling, durability and care
  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Brief supplier base clearly when requesting samples, and negotiate costs to ensure best price
  • Review and sign off all development and PP samples to ensure they meet Sussan’s quality fit and standards
To be successful in this role, you must have:
  • Fashion/Design/Merchandising diploma or Business/Commerce degree
  • Previous experience as designer, fashion buyer or product developer, ideally across apparel category
  • Knowledge of and exposure to quality control and fitting of garments
  • Strong communication, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong organisational skills to manage critical paths, deadlines and lead times
  • Proven direct sourcing experience
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management including assortment planning and OTB management
  • Solid understanding of the local and international market place
