The role

As the Head of Commercial Finance & Partnering - Transmission Development, you'll lead a high-performing finance partnering team embedded across our Development business directorate.

You’ll act as the strategic finance lead to the Development Director, sitting on the directorate’s leadership team and providing trusted commercial and financial guidance across a portfolio of multi-billion-pound programmes.

This is a leadership role, responsible for setting the tone and expectations for how finance supports and challenges the business — ensuring value is maximised, decisions are optimised, and risks are understood and managed.

You’ll lead a team comprising a Senior Finance Business Partner and dedicated FP&A resource. Together, you'll drive excellence in planning, forecasting, performance analysis, commercial challenge and regulatory strategy, working collaboratively with central FP&A, Regulatory Finance, Financial Control and wider support functions to deliver best-in-class outcomes.

This is a highly visible, high-impact role for a finance leader with strong strategic acumen, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and a track record of leading teams in complex, capital-intensive environments.

This role requires a combination of technical financial expertise, commercial acumen, regulatory knowledge and the ability to influence and guide senior stakeholders. You'll be at the forefront of supporting delivery of SSEN Transmission’s investment pipeline and 2030 net zero targets.

 You will

  • Act as the senior finance representative for your business directorate, sitting on the leadership team and partnering closely with the Business Unit Director and functional leads.
  • Lead and develop a team of Senior Finance Business Partners and embedded FP&A analysts, creating a high-performance culture focused on impact, insight and collaboration.
  • Lead the financial performance management of the directorate portfolio, ensuring clarity of performance against budget, understanding of risk and opportunity, and appropriate interventions to optimise outcomes.
  • Ensure robust governance is applied to all financial decisions, funding strategies and investment cases and lead commercial analysis on cross-portfolio opportunities and risks, and support the team in influencing the financial design of regulatory submissions and project assessments.
  • Work in partnership with Regulatory Finance, Financial Control, Procurement and Commercial teams to ensure alignment on business priorities, consistency of approach and efficient hand-offs.

You have

  • Extensive experience working with senior stakeholders in the business. Being comfortable supporting and challenging Directors and members of the executive committee is essential.
  • Significant experience in a senior finance position, ideally with large capital projects or infrastructure investment experience, with expertise in Finance Business Partnering, Budgeting and Forecasting.
  • Experience managing senior finance professionals, driving strong results and a high-performance culture.
  • Demonstrated a strong understanding of strategic objectives, risks and opportunities at the business unit level, as well as commercial risks and opportunities at a project level.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and financial governance related to RIIO price controls or similar environments (desirable but not essential).
