Base Location:  Flexible UK and Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices in the UK or Ireland which includes but is not limited to; Glasgow, Perth, Dublin and Belfast

Salary:  £42,600 - £64,000 / €57,600 - €86,400 dependant on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

SSE Renewables Technical Centre of Excellence have an opportunity within our Grid Engineering Team working on some of the largest and most exciting Renewable Generation projects in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

As Grid Engineer, you'll lead and coordinate all Grid Engineering deliverables across development, construction and operational projects within the Technical Centre of Excellence. This will span the whole project lifecycle across all Technology Business Units, covering grid connection contract management, grid code compliance, operational performance, outage support, wind farm registration process, and stakeholder management with System Operators and Transmission Owners.

You will also be responsible for contributing to and driving Value and Innovation, identifying and implementing best practices which reduce costs and/or improve performance of assets, and ensuring targeted optionality aligning with SSER Business Objectives and Priorities.

You will

  • Managing the grid connection process across a portfolio of projects including the preparation and submission of Grid connection applications, review of resulting connection offers and continued management of connection agreements.
  • Working closely with and providing technical guidance to Development and Construction teams and managing the interface and relationship with network companies to drive the delivery of grid connections in the timescales required.
  • Interpreting Grid Code requirements and achieving and maintaining Grid Code compliance, including Grid Code testing and performance monitoring
  • Undertaking Grid feasibility assessments and due diligence of Grid contracts in support of project acquisitions
  • Identifying and applying for ancillary system service contracts to add additional revenue streams
  • Representing SSE Renewables on key industry panels, committees and working groups

You have

  • A relevant Engineering Degree/Masters qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A genuine passion for the energy industry coupled with a dynamic and proactive approach.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electricity transmission systems, their operation and current/future challenges.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate requirements of relevant legislation, codes and standards.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with an understanding of the implications of engineering activities and decisions.
  • Good report writing and interpersonal skills
  • Effective organisation capabilities with the ability to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales
  • Thorough understanding of commercial awareness in order to understand implications of engineering activities and decisions.

Although flexible on base location, you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, sometimes to remote locations. A full and valid UK driving license is essential.
