The Opportunity

We are seeking an Assistant Commercial Accountant to join our Business & Industry (B&I) sector in North Sydney. Reporting to the Associate Business Partner, you will play a key role in delivering commercial and financial support across a diverse portfolio.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded accountant looking to build on their financial analysis, reporting and stakeholder management experience within a large and dynamic organisation. There is a strong possibility for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries and P&L analysis
• Prepare and distribute monthly management reports and financial insights
• Partner with operational and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve financial performance
• Manage invoicing processes, payment follow-ups and contract-related queries
• Prepare contract price escalations and contractual variations
• Maintain contract databases and ensure information accuracy
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
• Support quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and ad hoc commercial analysis
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across commercial processes

About You

• Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• Currently studying towards or completed CA/CPA qualifications
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a commercial accounting environment
• Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously
• Positive, proactive and team-oriented approach

Desirable:

• Experience using Oracle accounting systems
• Previous experience within a large corporate environment
