Why this role matters
At Tabcorp, employment relations shapes some of our most important decisions—from workforce strategy and organisational change to enterprise bargaining, sensitive employment matters and emerging regulatory obligations. As Deputy General Counsel – Employment Relations, you’ll bring clarity and legal judgement to issues carrying significant workforce, commercial and reputational consequences—helping Tabcorp manage risk, deliver on its strategic priorities and achieve its commercial objectives.
Your role
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you’ll be Tabcorp’s most senior employment and industrial relations legal adviser. You’ll set the legal strategy for employment relations matters and partner closely with the Chief People Officer and People & Culture leadership team to shape Tabcorp’s broader employment relations approach.
With enterprise-wide reach, you’ll influence decisions across Tabcorp while remaining closely involved in the matters carrying the greatest workforce, commercial and reputational consequences. Specifiically, you will:
- Advise the Board, Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders on complex employment matters and material workforce risks
- Lead significant litigation, disputes and other sensitive or high-stakes matters, including whistleblower and senior leader cases
- Guide the organisation through enterprise bargaining, industrial disputes and union engagement
- Advise on the employment implications of major organisational change, transactions and workforce transformation
- Anticipate legal and regulatory developments and strengthen how employment-related risk is managed
- Manage external legal support and build employment law capability across the organisation
What you’ll need to succeed
You’re an accomplished employment relations lawyer who combines deep technical expertise with strong commercial judgement, pragmatism and the confidence to influence at the highest levels of an organisation. You’ll also bring:
- A law degree, admission to practise in Australia and a current unrestricted practising certificate
- Significant post-admission experience—typically at least seven years—across employment and industrial relations law
- The credibility and judgement to advise at Board and executive level on complex and sensitive workplace matters
- Experience navigating complex disputes and other high-stakes employment matters
- Strong commercial nous and the ability to balance legal risk with broader workforce and business outcomes
- The ability to build trusted partnerships, influence decisions and strengthen employment law capability across the organisation
Experience advising on whistleblower matters or employment relations issues across multiple countries would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
What’s in it for you
This is an opportunity to operate at the most senior levels of a major Australian organisation and shape decisions critical to Tabcorp’s future success. You’ll have the scope to shape enterprise-level strategy while remaining directly involved in resolving Tabcorp’s most complex employment relations matters.
