Assistant Company Secretary

Hello. We're Virgin Australia. We're the airline that's always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We're on a mission to make flying better than 'nice'. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety -- in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you'll be doing:

The Assistant Company Secretary will work closely with the Head of Corporate Governance to provide comprehensive legal and governance support to the Boards and Committees of Virgin Australia Group. This role will leverage legal expertise to review and enhance governance frameworks, draft and revise board materials, provide legal guidance on corporate matters, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in maturing the corporate governance function through the development and implementation of best practice governance processes. A critical responsibility will be coordinating and delivering the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for our ASX listed entity, ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements are met. You will collaborate with the Corporate Governance Specialist to deliver seamless secretarial services, manage board logistics, and serve as a key point of contact for the corporate governance team’s stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to apply your legal knowledge in a dynamic corporate environment while developing expertise in aviation governance.

You'll be great in this role if you:

  • Have a legal qualification and 4-6 years' experience in corporate law, with specific exposure to corporate governance (experience in aviation or ASX-listed companies is advantageous)
  • Have previous experience in managing or supporting the delivery of Annual General Meetings for ASX listed entities
  • Possess strong knowledge of Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules (if applicable), and current governance best practices
  • Can provide practical legal advice on governance matters in a business-focused manner
  • Have exceptional attention to detail and ability to draft clear, concise documents
  • Can interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable governance frameworks
  • Are adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Have strong stakeholder management skills and can build effective relationships with board members and executives
  • Can maintain absolute confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information
  • Are a collaborative team player who can work effectively with the Corporate Governance Specialist and other colleagues
