As a Load Controller you will be responsible for ensuring that accurate weight and balance data is generated in order to support safe, compliant and efficient flight operations, with an objective of transporting our guests' and payload in accordance with our airline's operating schedule.
These positions are based in Brisbane Head Office in South Bank and, you will work closely with the Load Control Manager.
What you’ll be doing
- Generate and certify accurate load documentation in line with company procedures and CASA regulatory requirements to ensure aircraft weight and balance compliance.
- Monitor the Load Control System to ensure real-time accuracy of load data for both ground and flight crews, enabling safe, compliant, and efficient flight operations.
- Proactively communicate operational constraints, issues, and policy changes to stakeholders across departments such as Flight Operations, Dispatch, Ops Control, Maintenance Watch, Engineering, and Customer Recovery.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including Cargo, Ramp, Guest Services, and Airside Services to optimise payload and ensure smooth turnaround of aircraft.
- Ensure timely delivery of loading documentation and maintain accuracy during both normal and manual/technical outage conditions.
- Actively identify and report operational hazards as part of Virgin Australia's Safety Management System (SMS) and Security Management System (SeMS), participating in safety initiatives and contributing to a strong safety culture.
- Identify and report non-standard events, system anomalies, and operational impacts.
- Complete all shift-specific duties accurately, adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and Virgin Australia’s operational policies.
- Recommend improvements to Load Control procedures, contributing to continuous improvement efforts and the development of department strategies.
- Maintain all required technical training, qualifications, and currency for systems, safety, and load control procedures.
- Work within a 24/7 shift environment based in the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), demonstrating strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills under pressure.

You’ll be great in this role if you…
- Demonstrated understanding of airline or similar logistical operations
- Very good understanding of aircraft weight & balance and aircraft performance
- Ability to commit to working a rotating day and night roster
- Excellent problem solving and organisational skills
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Proficient in MS office suite of applications
