Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

The objective of the Fatigue Risk & Human Factors Advisor role is to support the FRMS and Human Factors team with the day-to- day implementation, management, and continuing effectiveness of the Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS) and Human Factors (HF) Program. The position is also responsible for providing support and expertise on the Safety Management Systems (SMS). This role will be part-time and a 6 month fixed-term contract.

  • Support the Manager, Human Performance and FRMS, seeking new and innovative ways to embed human factors within our day to day working environment
  • Engage with the Audit and Investigation team to satisfy the SMS.
  • Data interpretation and management of crew safety reporting as applicable to the FRMS
  • Providing advice to stakeholders based on conclusions including possible risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance is maintained within the FRMS and HF sections of the SMS document site.

You’ll be great for this role if you have...

  • Formal qualifications of equivalent experience in safety or aviation management.
  • Practical experience applying HF and FRMS principles into operational systems and processes.
  • Experience in the interpretation and application of rostering work rules in an operational environment.
  • Proven ability to analyse data in many forms and provide reliable advice and recommendations based on this analysis.
  • Experience in designing policy and process.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing.

Desirable but not essential...

  • Project or Change Management qualifications.
  • A high level of awareness of the Civil Aviation Safety Authorities requirements of Human Factors.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Previous experience using Intelex or a similar quality management application to manage occurrences.
  • Previous experience using fatigue analysis software.
  • Experience working in the aviation industry.
