What you’ll be doing
The objective of the Senior Data Analyst role is to be the ‘bridge’ between data engineering and the business, on various projects. You will support the Data Management Lead in rolling out data management initiatives and frameworks across the Enterprise Platform Projects and Data Citizens. Your deep knowledge and experience with data will uplift the capability of the Data team.
This position is within the Technology - Enterprise Data Platforms Team. The team’s purpose is to empower Virgin Australia and our data citizens to derive meaning and actionable insights from data by designing, developing and optimising the tooling and information delivery outputs for data analytics workloads. We are on a continuous journey to collaborate and align with the needs of our data citizens.
Further responsibilities:
- Play a leadership role on allocated projects: from small to large.
- Ask the right questions to understand stakeholders’ challenges and opportunities they face and guide them to the right data solutions
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data engineering
- Plan data design and analytics work in collaboration with the EDP team, execute on the plan and manage expectations with stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement of data management frameworks by identifying and helping resolve gaps before they become a bigger problem
- Keep up to date on the tools to support development and optimising the tooling and information delivery outputs for data analytics workloads
- Support the execution and evangelism of data management frameworks with the project teams and greater organisation to uplift a consistent unified approach across the organisation
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders who have a range of different expectations and backgrounds (including non-technical stakeholders)
- Provide guidance, feedback and supervision to other team members working with you on projects and the greater EDP team
You’ll be great in this role if you have…
- At least 5 years’ experience in a hands-on data analytics role, BI role, or related role within a large, complex organisation
- Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas clearly
- Previous experience working with offshore teams and external implementation partners
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills and experience with leading projects of different sizes and complexity
- Expertise in a range of different data technologies and languages, such as SQL (mandatory).
- Ability to engage with senior level stakeholders and having a broad influence on them
- Applied knowledge of data management fundamentals and principles
- Experience and knowledge of modern data platforms and information system technologies
- Familiarity with privacy laws, data protection, and information security regulations, and frameworks, such as GDPR, and APRA
