What you’ll be doing
 
The Commercial Acceleration Strategy team acts as an 'Internal Management Consulting' team to solve for strategic, commercially focused challenges at Virgin Australia. These strategic initiatives cover a variety of commercial topics, always focusing on future revenue growth opportunities. 
 
The role is a senior leadership position with 2-3 direct reports (Analyst and Senior Analyst levels) and is responsible for training and mentoring other members of the broader team. It reports into the Head of Commercial Acceleration Strategy, who reports into the Chief Commercial Officer. You will be in a highly visible leadership position that regularly interfaces with General Managers and Chiefs. The role offers fantastic career progression opportunities, within a profitable and recently publicly listed business. 
 
Responsibilities include: 
  • Do the strategic framing of complex and ambiguous business challenges (within commercial topics), then solve for these problems with rich and robust data
  • Train, lead and mentor Analysts/ Senior Analysts in the team. Actively contribute to the broader team through best practice sharing
  • Be a visible point of contact for other senior leaders and confidently and concisely provide answers to ad-hoc, commercial questions
  • Collaborate closely with other divisions, including Pricing, Digital, B2B sales, Marketing, Ancillary Products etc.
  • Proactively identify opportunities across commercial functions, and lead cross-functional delivery of complex projects
  • Lead special projects and selected deep dives for value acceleration capture
  • Actively lead and support preparation for ELT/Board updates
  • Proactively interrogate and analyse data to identify trends, gaps and opportunities, and understand drivers of commercial performance using Microsoft Excel, PowerBI and other analytical tools. 
  • Champion the annual planning cycle for the various commercial divisions to ensure consistent, strategic alignment 
 
You’ll be great in this role if you…
You are highly analytical with extensive experience in Strategy. You are also a confident communicator and Leader, that can concisely convey insights and recommendations to C-Suite stakeholders. 
  • 6-10+ years experience in Management Consulting, Internal Strategy or Commercial Strategy teams
  • Bachelor qualification in an analytical field. (MBA or higher level education is desirable)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to build complex models
  • Solid leadership experience, including previous direct reports
  • Confident and polished communication style with the ability to verbally answer complex questions when put under pressure
  • Extensive experience with putting together packs for C-Suites and delivering presentations
  • Previous experience running strategic projects with a commercial focus
