Senior Flight Operations Engineer

What you will be doing…

As a Senior Flight Operations Engineer, you will be the go-to expert in the management of flight operations engineering systems and infrastructure. You will ensure the continued availability and integrity of our aircraft communications and navigation data systems, while driving process improvement and collaboration across multiple operational teams.

You will work closely with the Manager, Flight Operations Services, and partner with stakeholders to support other flight operations engineering functions within Flight Operations.

You will…

  • Provide technical expertise on aircraft loading systems as senior SME for this work stream
  • Provide technical expertise on aircraft performance and airport technical information
  • Oversee the availability and data integrity of aircraft communication systems
  • Proactively identify and resolve connectivity and systems issues
  • Manage and improve flight operations engineering systems, infrastructure, and processes
  • Administer and control navigation databases for aircraft flight management and flight planning systems (Jeppesen/Honeywell)
  • Analyse operational data to support new routes and performance assessments
  • Lead and support projects that enhance automation, efficiency, and reliability across Flight Operations
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and support other team members, sharing knowledge and expertise across the function

You will be great in this role if you have…

  • Experience in an airline technical role
  • Tertiary qualification in Aviation or Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Attendance at a large aircraft manufacturer’s aircraft performance course
  • CASA Weight Control Authority (WCA) with appropriate coverage for supported aircraft types, and experience in the design of aircraft loading systems for large transport category aircraft
  • Experience with aircraft performance, airport technical and navigation data management
  • Experience with IT systems and data processes related to flight operations
  • Experience in the authoring of airline technical and procedural documentation
  • Familiarity with aviation operational and navigational documentation including Nav Databases and Charting
  • Advanced data analysis skills and experience with relevant OEM software such as:
    • Boeing Onboard Performance Tool (OPT),
    • Boeing AFM-DPI
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly
  • Ability to mentor others and work collaboratively across teams
  • Calm and organised under pressure, with strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Flexibility to participate in an on-call roster (approximately one week every 4–5 weeks). An on-call allowance is included in the package.

Knowledge

  • Detailed understanding of the aviation legislation and regulations as they relate to aircraft performance, loading systems and navigation data.
  • Detailed understanding of aircraft air-ground datalink and communications.
  • Detailed understanding of the principles of flight operations engineering
  • Detailed understanding of IT systems and how they integrate into operations
