Senior Test Manager

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing…

As a Senior Test Manager, you’ll lead testing across a portfolio of complex projects, ensuring delivery is efficient, on budget, and to a high standard of quality.

You’ll be a key advocate for testing within IT, driving best practice, building and maturing test automation capability, and continuously improving how testing is delivered across large programs.

This role blends strategic leadership with practical involvement. You’ll define testing strategies, provide governance and direction, and ensure effective planning and execution of both manual and automated testing. When required, you’re comfortable stepping in to troubleshoot, review test artefacts, or execute test cases to support delivery.

You’ll also coach and mentor test analysts, guide test managers and test leads, and coordinate teams to achieve successful outcomes.

This role is based at our Head Office in Brisbane.

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • ISTQB certification in Software Testing.
  • 10+ years of testing experience, including 5+ years in senior roles.
  • Skilled in manual and automated testing across Agile and Waterfall projects.
  • Proficient in tools like Jira, Confluence, and qMetry.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC and testing methods (manual, automated, performance).
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data for insights and decisions.
  • Professional, ethical, and discreet with confidential information.
  • Strong practical real world testing experience
  • Degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Desirable but not required:

  • Master’s degree in IT or Computer Science.
  • Experience in the airline industry (highly desirable).
  • Broad domain knowledge and strong commercial acumen are a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with testing tools like Selenium, UIPath, and Tosca.
  • Knowledge of performance testing, particularly with JMeter.
  • Familiarity with tools like Project Online for scheduling and Postman for API testing.

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
