About the role

Join our Spot Trading team in Sydney as an Energy Spot Trader. You’ll manage and optimise power and gas positions, implement trading strategies, and assess market risks in the short-term and spot markets. Responsibilities include market analysis and submitting compliant bids and offers for electricity and gas wholesale markets.

We provide comprehensive in-house training to help you become independent on the trading desk. After training, you’ll work rostered shifts in either gas or electricity, with a balanced 24/7 schedule. We value work-life balance, offer flexibility to work from home during night and weekend shifts, and provide opportunities to contribute to projects during standard hours as the energy industry evolves.

What you'll do

  • Manage and optimise power and gas positions to meet portfolio objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and market regulations.  
  • Submit market bids for gas and electricity, communicating analysis and its impact on market submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external market participants, ensuring seamless communication and compliance.
  • Analyse market trends and conduct bids and offers, adapting strategies to changing conditions.
  • Participate in a rotational roster, ensuring continuous coverage of trading activities 24/7

Your experience

  • Strong academic foundation in business, engineering, mathematics, or other quantitative disciplines – graduates welcome to apply.
  • Solid understanding of energy markets, with a focus on the Australian electricity and gas sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure, particularly in trading or fast-paced environments.
  • Skilled in interpreting market data and trends to support timely and informed decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, fostering effective stakeholder engagement.
