Join City of Moreton Bay as a Media Officer and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

As a Media Officer and member of the External Relations Team, you will play a key role in supporting the Media Manager to develop and deliver proactive and reactive media content, creative media and public relations plans, and support issues management.

You will maximise media opportunities by collaborating closely with media contacts, and key stakeholders both internal and external, while also managing reputational risk by proactively identifying emerging issues. You will also:

  • prepare and issue proactive materials, including media strategies, media releases and media statements
  • manage reactive media enquiries by researching and preparing media statements and responses while working to tight deadlines.
  • manage and implement media events to attract coverage of public announcements
  • monitor media coverage and provide relevant reporting to manage crisis situations, measure effectiveness of campaigns, and inform content and opportunities
  • establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with a range of stakeholders including media, Councillors, internal stakeholders, government, industry and community organisations

About you

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic media and PR professional that has been in a similar role with experience in the developing and implementing media and communication plans. You will have an excellent understanding of the local, state and national media landscape with a genuine interest in current affairs.

You will be someone that proactively engages and collaborates to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders within a fast-paced environment, be adaptive, and can work calmly under pressure. You'll also have:

  • excellent writing skills and strong attention to detail
  • strong organisational and time management skills
  • relevant degree qualification in Media, PR, Journalism or Communications
  • proactive approach to media monitoring, issues management and crisis communication
  • experience managing confidential and sensitive topics and questions
  • able to work outside normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays as required
