Join City of Moreton Bay as a Manager Drainage, Waterways and Coastal Planning, and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

Reporting directly to our General Manager Infrastructure Planning, we will look to you to lead the integral function of Drainage, Waterways and Coastal Planning. 

Leading a team of 30+ direct and indirect reports, your team will be split into 3 key focus areas:

  • Coastal
  • Floodplain
  • Stormwater

As our Manager Drainage, Waterways and Coastal Planning, you will strategically lead and direct a multi-disciplinary team of professionals responsible for the planning and design of Council’s stormwater, natural waterways, floodplain and coastal infrastructure program, with a focus on innovative and contemporary customer-based outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to; 

  • provide strategic and operational advice and expertise to Council and key stakeholders regarding the identification and management of floodplain and coastal risks through the provision of specialist expertise in river, creek and coastal flood and storm tide modelling, floodplain risk mitigation investigations and complex stormwater investigations
  • lead and manage the development of the 10-20 year capital works program, to upgrade/augment or renew stormwater or coastal assets, to support Council’s planning scheme and asset management plans, and to address deficiencies in current networks
  • develop and implement innovative technologies, practices and systems to better manage and service Council’s stormwater and coastal asset networks; and respond to events in real time.

About you

We are seeking a leader who has managed multi-disciplinary teams and delivered quality project, policy and performance outcomes. You will have the ability to guide and coach your leadership team and manage upwards within your space of expertise. It is crucial you are highly skilled in working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and being a trusted advisor within the room. 

You will have expertise in;

  • numerical modelling of flooding and storm tide behaviour, flood mitigation and flood impact assessment
  • the development and implementation of strategy and policy and in leading organisational change whilst balancing competing priorities
  • interpreting and using flood modelling databases and systems
  • the application of planning scheme codes and practices, relevant local and state legislation, including work health and safety legislation.
