We’re seeking a passionate and strategic leader to drive key social policy initiatives and lead a small team within our Community Planning and Policy unit. This role is central to shaping Council’s approach to community wellbeing, equity, and inclusion…ensuring our services and programs reflect the needs of our diverse communities

In this role, you will:

  • lead and manage strategic projects, guiding a small team and working across multiple teams to deliver inclusive, evidence-based policy outcomes
  • collaborate with internal officers and external stakeholders to translate community needs into meaningful policy
  • analyse demographic and consultation data to inform planning and service delivery
  • support integration of social insights into Council’s service and business planning processes

You’ll be at the forefront of delivering Council’s Community Wellbeing Strategy, leading projects across areas such as access and inclusion, housing and homelessness, gender equity, and social impact evaluation. You’ll also contribute to the review and development of other social and community related policies, helping ensure they remain responsive to community needs. Your work will directly influence how Council plans for and delivers community services, embedding principles of equity and wellbeing into everything we do.

About you

We are looking for someone committed to inclusion and eager to drive change. You’ll have great people skills and enjoy building relationships to find new ways to approach challenges and find opportunities. You’ll be someone who can interpret policy into action. 

You will have:

  • significant knowledge of community planning and policy frameworks
  • experience in social research and data analysis
  • strong project management skills, with the ability to lead complex initiatives and coordinate cross-team efforts
  • an understanding of local government’s role in responding to social policy
  • knowledge of contemporary issues facing diverse communities and organisations
  • a passion for cakes/slices/coffee!
