Are you a strategic leader with a passion for financial services and team development? We're seeking a proactive Rates and Collections Coordinator to lead a dedicated team of 24 professionals across Rates and Property and Accounts Receivable and Collections. This role is a brand-new role that reports directly to the Manager of Financial Services and plays a key part in shaping the financial future of our community.
This is a leadership position with broad responsibilities across operational delivery, strategic planning, compliance, and stakeholder engagement. You will:
- Oversee service delivery to ratepayers, ensuring a high standard of customer experience and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and Council policies, particularly those under the Local Government Act 2009.
- Develop and implement policies and processes that enhance service delivery, automate routine tasks, and improve financial accuracy.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop financial rating models that forecast future revenue and support Council’s annual budget cycle and long-term financial forecast.
- Provide expert advice on rating and collection matters to internal stakeholders, including executive leadership and elected officials.
- Promote financial accountability through regular reporting, education, and communication across the organisation.
About you
You will be a confident and capable financial leader, bringing a wealth of experience in managing complex financial systems and leading high-performing teams. You are passionate about delivering excellent service to both internal stakeholders and the community, and you thrive in environments that require strategic thinking, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your strong communication skills, ethical approach, and ability to manage competing priorities make you a trusted advisor and effective team builder. You will also have:
- A degree in Accounting and/or Commerce, with CPA or CA membership (preferred).
- Extensive experience in computerised accounting systems, ideally within a local government setting.
- Strong understanding of compliance obligations under the Local Government Act 2009
- Strong skills in financial modelling, strategic planning, and operational delivery.
- Experience in enterprise-wide financial systems, including automation and process optimisation.
