  • Base salary range: $91,833 – $97,052 p.a (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation

About the area
This role sits within College Services and supports training and learning across the broad Field of Education of Biomedical Sciences, which includes disciplines such as infection and immunity, pathology, pharmacology, pharmacy, biochemistry, and diagnostic pathology.

The position is based in the Dental School’s Research Training Laboratory—an advanced facility equipped for materials science, focused ultrasound research, 3D printing, microbiology, molecular biology, and more. The laboratory provides practical support for teaching and research programs in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.

About the opportunity

  • Liaise with academic staff to assist in planning, evaluating, and designing teaching practicals and research projects within the Dental School.
  • Prepare and set up materials, models, equipment, and instrumentation for both teaching and research, working collaboratively with academic and technical teams.
  • Demonstrate, develop, and optimise laboratory techniques, and supervise others in the use of specialised equipment, modelling best practice in safe laboratory operations.

About you

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and maintaining a wide range of scientific equipment across biomedical and dental research disciplines.
  • Experience with universal mechanical testing machines, micro-mechanical testers (shear/tensile), micro-hardness testers, FTIR/ATR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, ultrasound transducers, hydrophones, cavitation detectors, nanoparticle fabrication, ultrasonic homogenisers, viscometers, and pH meters.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently, show initiative, and contribute effectively to a team.
  • Proven ability to support teaching and research through the preparation of materials, technical supervision, and application of safe laboratory practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to high standards of service delivery.

  • Some after-hours work may be required.
