Technical Assistant

  • Base salary range: $74,450 – $79,085 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area
College Services provides academic and technical support across UWA’s schools to enable excellence in teaching and research. This position sits within the Materials and Environmental Analysis Platform, which supports chemical analysis and physical characterisation of environmental materials. Facilities include the Petrographic Preparation Facility and UWA’s X-ray Diffraction Facility. The platform services researchers and students through training, access, and analytical support.

About the opportunity

  • Conduct elemental and nutrient analysis of soil, water, and plant material to support research and academic activities.
  • Assist with instrument operation, user training, and supervision to ensure safe and accurate analytical work.
  • Maintain equipment, apply good laboratory practice, and contribute to a strong safety culture in the lab.

About you

  • Year 12 completion or equivalent competency.
  • Practical experience in an analytical laboratory conducting soil, water, or plant nutrient analysis is highly desirable.
  • Experience with ICP-OES, flow injection analysis, and wet chemical techniques is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and data accuracy focus.
  • Well-developed skills in the use of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office programs, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.

Special Requirements

  • This role involves physical tasks, including lifting and manual handling.
  • Some after-hours work may be required.
