Senior Technician - School of Engineering

  • Apply your mechanical and technical expertise to maintain and operate equipment in specialist labs.
  • Full-time appointment on a 2-year fixed-term basis, with potential for extension.
  • Base salary range: $91,833 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area
Technical Services, part of College Services at UWA, provides specialist support across Schools, contributing to the University’s teaching and research goals. Focused on performance, compliance, and safe systems of work, the Physical Sciences Technical Services team underpins learning across Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering. The team supports practical training and research across multiple venues on and off campus.

About the opportunity

  • Deliver skilled technical support for engineering teaching and practical activities.
  • Operate, maintain, and provide guidance on engineering equipment such as engines, turbines, and cooling systems.
  • Procure, service and advise on safe operation of teaching and lab equipment across specialist venues.

About you

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Experience supervising others and providing training on specialised technical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support complex engineering instrumentation and systems.
  • Demonstrated focus on workplace safety and development of safe systems of work.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance programs aligned with safety guidelines.

Special Requirements

  • Current “C” class manual driver’s licence.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the role.
  • Some after-hours, weekend work, or travel may be required.
  • High-risk licences (or willingness to obtain): Forklift, Dogging, Rigging, Crane operation, Working at Heights, Confined Spaces.
