- Base salary range: Level B, $113,934 – $134,824 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is UWA’s core analytical facility. The CMCA’s mission is to enable research excellence by providing access to world-class scientific infrastructure and expertise to researchers and industry. It comprises ~ 30 academic, research, technical, and administrative staff supporting a diverse range of imaging and analytical instrument platforms.
About the opportunity
- Elaborate new methodologies applied to critical mineral research with a focus on REE and Li
- Identify efficient tracers of fluid-mineral processes or geochronometers relevant to the systems of interest and developing new methodologies with a focus on LG-SIMS
- Apply and test these new methodologies to case studies associated with pegmatite or carbonatite systems
- Work closely with academic and professional staff, researchers and industry partners, as well as contributing to supervision of PhD students
About you
- PhD in Geoscience (Petrology and Geochemistry)
- Strong background in isotope geochemistry (stable isotopes and geochronology) with correlative approach involving mineral and rock characterisation.
- A high level of competency in techniques for rock and mineral characterisation such as LIBS, electron beam or RAMAN.
- Proven experience in using mass spectrometry (preferably LG-SIMS instruments), to conduct research.
- Experience in developing novel analytical techniques.
Note: A current “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant.
