Requalification Supervisor – Port Clarence

The Production team at Calor Gas are looking to recruit an engaging and proactive Requalification Supervisor
Leading a shift team to oversee and ensure safe and suitable cylinders are supplied to the filling teams. The person shall be authorised by the Inspection Body (IB) and perform the role of the Inspection Supervisor (IS) in accordance with the IB job description Q-QA-07-JD-IS.
Leading the onsite cylinder inspection and refurbishment team, ensuring LPG cylinders are inspected in accordance with Calor specifications (CAL 304/306 series), the company’s Quality procedures (Q-QA-07) and relevant local work instructions.
To carry out cylinder maintenance activities (cylinder steaming, repair, paint shop, or scrapping) in accordance with Calor specifications (CAL 304/306 series), the company’s Quality procedures (Q-QA-07) and relevant local work instructions.
The person shall be authorised by the Inspection Body (IB) and perform the role of the Inspection Supervisor in accordance with the IB job description Q-QA-07-JD-IS.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ensure Safety is always the number one priority at all times on site. Take personal accountability for your own safety and that of your team. Ensure all hazard spots and near misses are reported and take immediate action to eliminate workplace risks and hazards.
- Supervise and monitor the Inspection of cylinders and assessment of condition, against pre stated and agreed criteria (Calor specifications CAL306/304).
- Inspect cylinders in an impartial manner.
- Accountable for ensuring all cylinder maintenance work areas are left in a safe, clean and tidy condition at the end of every shift.
- Support, facilitate and take accountability for your team to produce cylinder maintenance activities to the highest standard.
- Manage a competent cylinder maintenance team, by delivering focussed training and competency sign off against all relevant Calor specifications (CAL304/306) and Quality procedure requirements (Q-QA-07). Take ownership for quality and ensure all cylinder refurbishment standards are followed without deviation.
- Eliminate defects in cylinder maintenance and avoid rework. Identify and propose improvements to the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the cylinder maintenance equipment and processes. Review and update work instructions as required.
- Ensure the team follows and adheres to all applicable site rules including PPE requirements, work instructions and all safe systems of work.
- Train, supervisor and assess new Cylinder Inspectors as well as providing ongoing supervision and assessment of existing team members (Cylinder Inspectors).
- Deal with issues as they occur during the shift and contribute to driving continuous improvement across activities.
- Provide guidance and coaching to your team whilst continuing to undertake a hands on role in the cylinder maintenance and inspection areas .
- May need to deputise for the Shift Lead during holidays & absence.
- May be required to form part of the onsite emergency response team.
- Point of escalation for technical queries – expected to resolve and escalate where necessary.
As such we would like you to have/be:
- Trained and assessed for knowledge and understanding of Calor cylinder inspection as set out in Q-QA-07-JD-IS.
- Authorised by the Inspection Body to perform cylinder inspections and the role of Inspection Supervisor.
- Essential that safety is the number one priority and leads by example at all times
- Adopt a right first-time approach and take ownership for the quality of the final product and reduce rework.
- Demonstrable ability to effectively lead and develop high-performing teams (desirable).
- The technical competence to develop and improve production & efficiency levels using available equipment & resources (essential).
- It’s essential the role holder can follow technical procedures and recommend improvements.
- Able to react effectively to emerging issues and take action to remain on track to meet objectives.
- Strong performance focus.
- People skills with the ability to motivate and engage staff.
- Must possess a good understanding of Calor Cylinder Filling specification (CAL320) and Cylinder Inspection specification (CAL304/306).
- Good communication skills.
- Previous experience of supervising production teams would be beneficial.
