About the role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Governance team. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert legal advice and services on a wide range of matters affecting VMCH. You will play a key part in supporting our mission and ensuring compliance, integrity, and best practice across our operations.
What your day may look like:
- Provide accurate, effective, and efficient legal advice on corporate, employment, privacy, property, and commercial matters.
- Review, draft, negotiate, and interpret a variety of legal documents, including contracts and tenders.
- Advise on statutory compliance, regulatory issues, and legal risk management.
- Support the General Counsel, Company Secretary, and broader Executive on legal matters.
- Where required, represent VMCH at relevant external jurisdictions.
- Manage contractual disputes and liaise with external lawyers as required.
- Deliver education and training on relevant legal issues to staff.
- Undertake investigations and ensure the integrity and timely completion of investigative processes.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.

About you
- Bachelor of Laws and admission as an Australian Lawyer with a current practising certificate (ongoing).
- Minimum four years’ post-qualification experience, with demonstrated ability to provide legal advice across corporate, commercial, and property law.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and support organisational growth.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
- Experience in the not-for-profit, community services, disability, or aged care sector will be highly regarded.
