Casual Opportunities – School of Agriculture, Food and Wine

The Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET) is a thriving centre of learning, teaching and research in a vast range of engineering and science schools and disciplines.  The multidisciplinary hub develops future leaders, and actively partners with innovative industries to solve scientific problems of global significance.  Many of its current academic staff are world leaders in their fields and graduates are highly regarded by employers.

The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine provides a world-class concentration of scientific research, education and infrastructure at the Waite campus of the University of Adelaide. Our agriculture, food and wine programs are at the forefront of industry innovation – from adapting to climate change and improving farming decision making to repurposing food waste and functional food development, through to sustainable vineyard management and improvements in fermentation.   

We are seeking dedicated and passionate casual staff to assist with the delivery of our Semester 1 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, semester commencing Monday 3 March 2025.

Application Process:

  • Please view the available courses through the application form, to determine what area of work offerings are being made available for individual courses (ie. other academic activity, marking etc). 
  • Ensure you meet the essential criteria:
    • Conferral of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field
    • Good technical knowledge of the key teaching components of the courses you are applying for
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical information to students
    • Available and flexible to meet the minimum hourly/sessional requirements for the course
    • Able to work collegially to support excellent teaching within the School
    • Are an Australian citizen or possess eligible Australian working visa*

*Please note:  Prospective employees are required to provide evidence of their Australian citizenship or working rights.

  • Consider the desired criteria:
    • Conferral of a postgraduate degree in a relevant field
    • Teaching qualifications or formal training
    • Previous experience with casual work within the School
    • Demonstrated ability to educate or mentor students
    • Evidence of good student feedback in student evaluations
    • Evidence of good feedback from course coordinators

Please note that there are limited opportunities available.  The University may be required to change teaching modes on short notice.  There may be restrictions on face-to-face interactions with students and staff and these possible conditions may change the casual teaching support required.
