The Conservatorium is seeking 2 x Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Jazz Performance positions, with a preference given to brass & saxophone.
In this role you will contribute to an environment of professional excellence, creativity and innovation in jazz teaching; and demonstrate significant creative achievement in and/or professional contribution to jazz music-making.
To be successful you will need:
Level B
- Completion of a minimum of four years tertiary study in music and/or equivalent music industry experience.
- Capacity for creative achievement and/or professional contribution to jazz music-making.
- A proven record of teaching and assessment experience in jazz work within a tertiary environment.
- A proven record as a professional performer in solo and ensemble settings.
- Ability to embrace a teaching approach that acknowledges the African American roots of jazz and its primacy as a foundation for the development of progressive contemporary artists.
- A demonstrated ability to teach jazz orchestration and arranging.
- Proven organisational and administrative skills within an academic environment, including evidence of capacity and willingness to undertake curriculum and course design and development.
Level C
- Submitted or in the final year of a relevant PhD program and / or significant music industry experience.
- Capacity for creative achievement and/or professional contribution to jazz music-making.
- A proven record of teaching and assessment experience in jazz work within a tertiary environment.
- A proven record as a professional performer in solo and ensemble settings.
- A proven track record in music leadership roles.
- Ability to embrace a teaching approach that acknowledges the African American roots of jazz and its primacy as a foundation for the development of progressive contemporary artists.
- A demonstrated ability to teach jazz orchestration and arranging.
- Proven organisational and administrative skills within an academic environment, including evidence of capacity and willingness to undertake curriculum and course design and development.
- Capacity & willingness to teach across another portfolio area at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
