Fulltime fixed term position, available until end of December 2027.
An exciting entry level research opportunity best suited to a recent PhD graduate (or soon to be graduate if near completion of PhD).
The successful applicant will work closely with proteomics collaborators and lead the molecular characterisation of malaria parasite proteins required for parasite development. The role will require the application of a number of advanced gene-editing, developmental assessment and proteomics techniques across both blood and gametocyte stages of development. The project requires the ability to work independently with the experimental systems and lead collaborative projects to successful completion.
The School of Biological Sciences is one of eight schools in the Faculty of SET. Its research and teaching spans the scale and breadth of the living world – from molecules, genes and cells, infectious agents; organisms and their environments; to broad habitats and landscapes that cover Earth, and its oceans.
To be successful you will need:
- A completed or near completed PhD in biological sciences with a focus on molecular parasitology and growth kinetics of malaria blood and gametocyte stages and related parasites.
- Demonstrated experience in production and use of malaria parasite transfection vectors, production of parasite samples for proteomics techniques and familiarity with proteomics data analysis, growth assay optimisation, measurement of blood and gametocyte growth kinetics, and fluorescence imaging.
- Recent evidence of producing quality research data, analysis and interpretation of results, and leading the writing of manuscripts published in highly regarded peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an academic team, including with external collaborators.
- Exemplary personal qualities fully aligned with our institutional values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery.
