A part-time (0.50FTE) fixed term position for 3 years.

We're seeking an experienced and proactive Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of our cutting-edge GeoEnergy & Storage Laboratory.

This position plays a critical role in supporting advanced research in underground hydrogen and CO storage by managing laboratory facilities, maintaining complex core flooding systems, and ensuring safe, efficient operations.

Based within the newly established GeoEnergy and Storage Laboratory Facility, this role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of energy transition technologies, particularly in underground storage and core flooding experimentation. The Laboratory Manager will work closely with academic staff and postgraduates, providing expert technical support while maintaining and developing high-pressure, high-temperature lab systems integrated with advanced imaging technologies like NMR and X-Ray. The position is ideal for candidates looking to build their technical career in a research-focused, collaborative environment that has strong links to industry and impactful outcomes in sustainable energy.

The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, managing the full range of laboratory functions, including equipment maintenance and procurement, safety compliance, experiment setup, and staff training. Experience with supercritical CO₂, hydrogen, and core flooding experiments is highly valued. A strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. This role is ideal for someone with a background in petroleum, chemical, or geoenergy engineering, seeking a dynamic role in a growing facility dedicated to energy innovation.

To be successful you will need:

  • Experience in laboratory operations/management and instrumentation in core flooding facilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the procedures, regulations and standards relating to the conduct of High Pressure and High Temperature core flood experiments
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changes in priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in designing and core flooding experiments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excell
  • Proven excellent attention to detail and computer and data acquisition competency.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and use initiative to solve problems independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behavior expectations.
