About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly capable Head of Operational Excellence to join our Operations and Technology Group. Reporting to the Chief Operations and Technology Officer (COTO) and participating in the Operations and Technology Senior Leadership Team (O&T SLT), this influential role plays a key part in enabling our vision to be the best workers’ compensation insurer and make a positive difference to the lives of Queenslanders.
In this role, you will lead the Operational Excellence Portfolio to enable the delivery of industry best practices, driving strategic and operational alignment across the division. You will act as a trusted advisor to the COTO and O&T SLT, lead governance and reporting functions, manage vendor performance, and ensure the delivery of high-impact transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead the Operational Excellence Portfolio, overseeing delivery of transformation initiatives, continuous improvement projects and BAU outcomes in line with time, budget and quality expectations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the COTO and O&T SLT on divisional operating models, strategic planning, operational risks, and emerging opportunities.
- Guide and review the development of high-quality Board, Committee, ELT and regulatory papers, while coaching teams to meet required standards and timeframes.
- Oversee the design and implementation of governance frameworks and policies across O&T, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the development and ongoing management of the Vendor Management Office for technology vendors, ensuring effective partnerships in alignment with enterprise procurement standards.
- Drive the creation and delivery of strategic performance reporting and insights across O&T, including divisional KPIs, risk and issue management, and performance metrics.
- Manage remediation efforts and response activities relating to audit findings, regulatory matters, and incidents, working closely with the O&T SLT and cross-functional teams.
- Support the development of the resourcing model for the Technology Strategy & Business Design Portfolio, and contribute to broader portfolio planning and reporting.
- Foster a high-performance and inclusive team culture that supports continuous improvement, capability uplift and strategic alignment across the O&T Division.
- Represent the COTO in internal forums as required, and support WorkCover’s presence in external industry engagements in alignment with communication policies.
With deep experience in operational excellence, strategic governance, and performance management within complex environments, you will bring a strong commercial lens, sound judgment, and a passion for continuous improvement. Your ability to engage, influence and align senior stakeholders will be critical to your success.
What We are Looking For:
- Expertise in shaping and directing operational and financial strategies with a commercial and data-driven approach.
- Demonstrated experience in managing transformation and BAU outcomes while maintaining compliance, mitigating risk and delivering business value.
- High-level communication and influencing skills with a proven ability to engage C-suite executives, Boards, regulators and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and lead teams, drive culture and capability uplift, and embed frameworks that support high performance and governance.
- Tertiary qualifications in business or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
- Experience in the financial services industry and understanding of commercial, regulatory and stakeholder considerations relevant to WorkCover Queensland.
- A track record of developing high-quality Board and regulatory papers, implementing enterprise governance frameworks, and managing complex vendor relationships.
